Teacher killed in road accident in Badalgachi, student dies after hearing the news
A teacher named Umme Kulsum was killed in a collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a paddy threshing machine in Badalgachi upazila of Naogaon. The teacher’s student Tasnim also died after hearing the news of the accident. The accident occurred in the Chakrail Battali More area of the upazila on Tuesday (May 19) afternoon. The deceased Umme Kulsum was a resident of Dargapara area of the upazila headquarters.
She was an assistant teacher of Badalgachi Labanya, Probha and Community Girls High School. The deceased Tasnim was an eighth-grade student of the same school. According to local and police sources, an auto-rickshaw with two passengers left for Rajshahi from Gorshahi area of the upazila at noon. When it reached Chakrail Battali More, it collided head-on with a paddy threshing machine coming from Matajihat.
Teacher Umme Kulsum died on the spot. Another teacher named Momtaz Jahan was seriously injured in the incident. Later, locals rescued her and admitted her to Badalgachi Upazila Health Complex. When her condition deteriorated, she was sent to Naogaon Sadar Hospital.
On the other hand, Tasneem fell ill after hearing the news of the teacher’s death. Later, when her family members took her to the hospital, the doctor declared her dead. The student’s father Abul Kalam said, “My daughter immediately lost consciousness after seeing the news of Teacher Kulsum’s death on Facebook. Later, when she was taken to Badalgachi Upazila Health Complex, the doctor examined her and declared her dead.”
Asaduzzaman Nahid, Resident Medical Officer of Badalgachi Upazila Health Complex, said that the student may have lost consciousness in a sudden incident. However, nothing can be said for sure about the cause of death right now. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report. Badalgachi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Nazrul Islam said that one person was killed in the road accident. There have also been reports of the death of a student from the same school. This is very sad. Legal action is being taken in the accident.
