Wife and child hacked to death in Rohingya camp
A man named Ehsanul Haque has been charged with the murder of his wife and child in the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. Another child was also hacked to death and attempted to be killed in the incident.
The incident took place at around 1:30 am on Wednesday (July 8) in the ‘B’ block of Rohingya camp number 6 in Kutupalong, Ukhia. The accused Ehsanul fled after the incident. The deceased were Ehsanul Haque’s wife Shahida Noor Prakash Sufia (30) and her son Mohammad Shamim (5). The injured eldest son Md. Afsar Prakash Bappi (14) is undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
Mohammad Hossain, a boatman at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp, said that a fight broke out between Ehsanul and Sufia on Wednesday night due to a family dispute. At one point, Ehsanul stabbed his wife and two sons, Shamim and Bappi, with a sharp knife, seriously injuring them. Sufia and Shamim died on the spot. With the help of local Rohingyas, the injured Bappi was rescued and admitted to Kutupalong MSF Hospital. He was later sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Ehsanul Haque fled after the incident. Ukhia Police Station OC Mujibur Rahman said the bodies have been recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
