Good news for Egyptian coach despite setback

Egyptian coach Hossam Hassan is set to be rewarded for leading his team to the last 16 for the first time in history. Despite a 3-2 defeat to Argentina, the country’s Football Association has announced the renewal of the coach’s contract. The Egyptian Football Association has officially announced that it has decided to renew the contract of national team head coach and team director Hossam Hassan.
Egypt completed their best World Cup campaign in history by reaching the last 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The team previously failed to advance past the group stage at the 1934, 1990 and 2018 World Cups. The Egyptian team will return to Cairo on Thursday (July 9). The term of the new contract has not been disclosed, but it is believed to be part of a long-term plan with the 2030 World Cup in mind.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Football Federation has filed a formal complaint with FIFA over the refereeing of World Cup qualifying matches. The federation president alleged that the French referee and his assistants made several key decisions.
Despite leading 2-0, Egypt lost 3-2 to Argentina. The Egyptian team claimed that a goal was disallowed before Argentina’s third goal and a potential penalty was not awarded. In a statement, Egyptian Football Federation President Hani Abu Rida said that the board of directors approved the renewal of the contracts of national team head coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan.
The decision was taken to continue the historic success of Egyptian football in recent times and to advance the national team’s long-term projects. The formal process of contract renewal will be completed at the next board of directors meeting after the national team returns to the country.
