Three children drown in flood waters
The fire brigade has recovered the bodies of three children who went missing after being swept away by heavy rain, sea tide and hill floods in Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong.
On Friday (July 10), Abdul Karim’s daughter Tahin Noor (12), a resident of Saral Union, drowned in water in West Jaliaghata of Ward No. 7 of Saral Union of the upazila. On the other hand, two other children named Ashiq (8) and Md. Miraj (6) of Baharchara Union died after being swept away by the strong current of hill floods in the upazila on the same day.
According to local sources, the children went missing after being swept away by the hill floods and sea tide after the low-lying areas of Banshkhali were flooded due to heavy rain for several days. After a long search, the fire brigade was informed and they were able to quickly rescue the children from the scene.
Banshkhali Fire Station officer Mizanur Rahman said, “The children were initially swept away in the water and went missing. We were able to rescue them quickly after receiving the information. The bodies of the three children have been handed over to local public representatives.”
