Robbery at Akhaura station, 2 arrested
The Railway Police have arrested two active members of a train robbery gang from Akhaura Junction Railway Station in Brahmanbaria. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akhaura Railway Police Station SM Shafiqul Islam confirmed this information on Wednesday (May 20) afternoon.
The arrested are Rakib Patwari (20), son of the late Suman Patwari of Chanpur village under Kotwali Police Station in Comilla, and Badal (22), son of Hanif Miah, a resident of Chanpur Sarkarpara in Akhaura Upazila of Brahmanbaria. Both are tenants in the Akhaura Station area.
Subhan Nag, SI of Railway Police Station, who is investigating the case, said that a passenger named Yasin Miah (40) of Bijoynagar Upazila was coming to Akhaura Railway Station last night in the Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita Express train. When the passenger reached the northern outskirts of the station, a gang of robbers blocked his path. At that time, they snatched the mobile phone and money from the passenger at gunpoint and fled. When the patrol reached the police station and informed about the matter, the police conducted a raid and arrested two robbers from the platform area. The stolen items and money were also recovered. He further said that they used to snatch valuables from passengers of various mail and intercity trains on the Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet and Chittagong-Dhaka routes passing through Akhaura on the Eastern Railway. A case has been filed against the arrested persons at the Railway Police Station and they have been sent to jail through the court.
