BNP to work on Teesta barrage as well as Padma barrage: Prime Minister
BNP will work on Teesta barrage as well as Padma barrage to ensure water for all, said Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. He said these things at a rally organized to mark the laying of the foundation stone of a research laboratory and training center under the Ministry of Disaster Management in Tongi today, Wednesday (May 20).
Tarique Rahman said, canal digging is related to earthquakes. The amount of water we have extracted from the ground in the last 20 years, dug canals and rivers, and even if we spread the excess water of the monsoon, it will not be replenished in the next 20 years. Therefore, groundwater cannot be used in any way. Using groundwater is becoming dangerous for us. BNP will work on Teesta barrage as well as Padma barrage to ensure water for all.
The Prime Minister said, earthquakes must be dealt with by digging canals and rivers, because earthquakes are related to canals and rivers. Therefore, we have to dig canals. Stating that disasters cannot be prevented, she said, “We have to be prepared to deal with disasters.”
The event, chaired by Relief and Disaster Management Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, was addressed by the Secretary of the Ministry and Director General of the Directorate and State Minister M Iqbal Hossain. After unveiling the foundation stone plaque of a research laboratory and training center under the Disaster Management Ministry, the Prime Minister released fish in a pond and planted trees. Finally, she addressed the gathering.
