Mother’s complaint against drug-addicted son, imprisonment
Chittagong: His mother has filed a complaint against a young man involved in various crimes including theft and robbery due to drugs. Based on the complaint, a mobile court arrested him and sentenced him to 9 months in prison. The incident took place on Sunday (June 7) night in Shilup Union of Banshkhali Upazila. The convicted youth is named Md. Shahidullah (19).
According to Banshkhali administration sources, Shahidullah had been addicted to drugs for a long time. To earn money for drugs, he used to steal at different times and beat up family members. At one point, his mother, fed up, filed a written complaint at the office of the Shilup Union Parishad Chairman. Later, when the matter was reported to the administration and police, a drive was conducted and he was arrested. After that, a mobile court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, two more people have been sentenced for drug use in the same drive. They are – Covered van driver Md. Moinuddin (29) and Jamal Hossain (42) of Hattaitala-Jangal Poirang area. They have each been sentenced to three months in prison after evidence of drug use was found.
Banshkhali Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Omar Sani Akon said that his mother herself complained to the administration against her drug-addicted son Shahidullah. During the mobile court, he said that the boy regularly stole mobile phones to raise money for drugs and there are more than 20 theft charges against him. Considering the safety of the family, the mother herself demanded punishment for her son to avoid major unwanted incidents in the future.
He also said that the administration’s anti-drug campaign is continuing. Immediate action is taken as soon as any drug-related complaint is received. Three people have been sentenced to prison in a one-night campaign and such campaigns will continue in the future.
