Mother stabbed to death in front of son, 3 women arrested

A woman named Sanjida Akhter Reshmi was stabbed to death in front of her 12-year-old son in Tekpara area of ​​Cox’s Bazar Town. She was admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital with serious injuries after being attacked at her home on Tuesday night (June 9). She died while undergoing treatment that night. Police have arrested three women in this incident.
According to local and eyewitness sources, Reshmi used to shop at a local grocery store for a long time. That is how she met shopkeeper Shafiul Alam Sawdagar. Later, they developed a close relationship.
Locals alleged that after learning about the matter, Shafiul Alam Sawdagar’s wife Yasmin and a few other women went to Sanjida’s house last night. At one point during the argument, a clash broke out. They attacked Sanjida with sharp weapons.
Hearing the screams of Sanjida’s son Sabbir, who was at the house at the time of the incident, the people around ran towards the house. Locals detained some people and informed the police. Later, the seriously injured Sanjida was rescued and admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where she died during treatment.
The deceased’s son Sabbir said in tears that he and his mother were at home at the time of the incident. Two other men were also staying there. He identified one of them as Shafiul Alam Sawdagar. Later, some women entered the house and attacked his mother and stabbed her.
Anwara Begum, who works at the deceased’s house, alleged that the attack was planned due to a previous family dispute and personal relationship. She also claimed that the attack was carried out at the instigation of some people. Neighbor Sohag said that they rushed to the spot after hearing the screams. Later, they detained some of the accused and handed them over to the police.
Local social workers Dalim and Riyad said that after receiving the information, they went to the spot and informed the police and arranged for the injured Sanjida to be taken to the hospital quickly. Since the deceased’s close relatives were not present at the spot, locals came forward to rescue her. However, despite the best efforts of the doctors, it was not possible to save her.
The deceased’s ex-husband Emon Contractor, who was present at the hospital, said that he did not know anything about the incident before. After receiving the news, he came to the hospital and tried to arrange for treatment. He demanded that legal action be taken against those involved in the incident. In this regard, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station OC Mohammad Ali said that after receiving the news, the police went to the spot and arrested three accused women with the help of locals.
He said that according to the locals, his wife Yasmin suspected that Reshmi was having an extramarital affair with Shafiul Alam Sawdagar. Due to this suspicion, Yasmin went to Reshmi’s house with some other women. There, they argued and fought with Reshmi. At one point, it was initially learned that Yasmin stabbed her.
The OC also said that although Reshmi was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital in an injured condition, she died during treatment. The real cause of the incident and the role of those involved in it are under investigation. The body of the deceased has been kept at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Further legal action in this incident is under process.
