Housewife’s body recovered 30 hours after going missing in Bhairab River
A diving team of the Fire Service recovered the body of housewife Fatema Akter Barna (28), who went missing while bathing in the Bhairab River in Nawapara, Abhaynagar, Jessore, after about 30 hours. Her body was recovered from a sand-carrying dredger next to the Bhairab Bridge in Nawapara in the evening after a day-long operation on Saturday (July 18).
Meanwhile, Barna drowned in the river while bathing at around 2 pm on Friday (July 17). The incident was reported to the Fire Service. Later, a diving team of the Khulna Fire Service reached the spot and conducted a search from noon to night, but the operation was suspended due to poor lighting.
The search resumed yesterday morning. After a day-long operation, members of a lighter ship found the body floating near a sand dredger near the Nawapara Bhairab Bridge in the evening. Based on the information provided by them, a diving team recovered the body. Fire Service diving team leader Md. Shahidul Islam said that after a day-long effort since yesterday morning, Barnara’s body was recovered at 7:05 pm and handed over to the family.
