3 killed in lightning strike in Naogaon
Three people, including a grandfather and grandson, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Raninagar, Naogaon. The incidents took place at around 11 am today, Thursday (May 21) in the fields of Paril and Gauta Atnitapara villages of the upazila. The deceased are Akkas Fakir (58), son of the late Asad Fakir of Paril Fakirpara village of the upazila, Tarek Fakir (24), son of Aminur of Gauta Atnitapara village, and Nayan Talukder (26), son of Hashem Talukder.
Farmers Akkas Fakir and Tarek Fakir are each other’s grandfather and grandson. According to local and police sources, Akkas Fakir and Tarek Fakir were harvesting paddy as laborers on the land of a person in the village’s Jatha field in Paril village of the upazila this morning. Both of them died on the spot when they were struck by lightning at around 11 am while harvesting paddy.
On the other hand, when it rained around 11 am, Nayan Takuldar, a young man from Gauta Atnitapara village, went to fetch cows from the field. Since then, he has not returned home. In the afternoon, locals went to the field and found Nayan dead in a lightning strike. Raninagar Police Station OC Md. Zakaria Mandal said that after receiving the information, police were sent to the spot. A case of accidental death has been filed at the police station in this incident.
