Two schoolchildren drown in pond in Natore’s Baraigram

Two children tragically died after drowning in a pond in Natore’s Baraigram. The incident took place on Tuesday (May 19) at around 1 pm in Purnakalsa village of Gopalpur union of the upazila. The deceased have been identified as Arafat Rahman and Mohammad Ali. They were students of class three and four respectively of a local primary school.
According to local residents and family sources, the two children had gone to bathe in a pond near their home around 11 am. When they did not return home after a long time, family members started looking for them everywhere. At one point, relatives became suspicious after seeing their clothes on the bank of the pond. Later, with the help of locals, they went down to the pond and searched and rescued the two children unconscious.
After the rescue, they were quickly taken to a local private hospital, where the doctor on duty declared both of them dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Baraigram police station Abdus Salam said that the police quickly reached the spot after receiving the information. As there were no complaints and after the legal process was completed, the bodies were handed over to the families for burial.
