Trump approves nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia

US President Donald Trump has formally approved a nuclear deal to help Saudi Arabia develop a civilian nuclear program. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Wednesday (July 22), citing US officials. Anadolu Agency also reported this.
According to the report, the 30-year deal could be worth billions of dollars. In addition, the main purpose of the deal is to give US companies a central role in developing Saudi Arabia’s nuclear infrastructure and keep other foreign competitors out of the sector.
The report also said that if a joint review between the US and Saudi Arabia proves necessary, US companies will build a uranium enrichment plant in Saudi Arabia. In addition, the deal will give the US a role in monitoring Saudi Arabia’s nuclear program. Trump administration officials have claimed that this will help ensure that the program is not being used to produce nuclear weapons.
However, it is feared that the deal may face objections when it is sent to the US Congress for review in the coming days. Many lawmakers are concerned about Saudi Arabia’s expansion of its nuclear capabilities amid the unstable situation in the Middle East.
