Trawler fire, Tamim in the country of no return

Engineer Ashiquzzaman Tamim, who was burnt in a fishing trawler fire in the Karnaphuli River in Sadarghat, Chittagong, has died. He died while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka on Saturday (July 4) night.
Tamim’s home is in Sandwip upazila. He is scheduled to be buried after a funeral at his village home on Sunday (July 5) afternoon. This brings the death toll in the fire to 3. Earlier, on Tuesday (June 30) evening, greasers of the engine department Md. Rubel (32) and Shah Alam (40) died on their way to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.
Nizam Uddin, Md. Russell and Siddique Ahmed, sailors of the FV Disney ship, which was anchored next to the trawler during the fire, were burnt and were discharged after treatment at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. The ship’s captain, Zubair Mahmud, said the casualties occurred after a sudden, massive explosion in the engine room of the fishing trawler ‘FV Desh’ at around 1:15 pm on Tuesday (June 30).
