Three killed in mob lynching over alleged cow theft in Gaibandha
Three people were killed in a mob lynching over alleged cow theft in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha. The incident took place in a village in the upazila (Mazar area) at midnight on Saturday (November 1). Two of the deceased died on the spot and the other died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Locals said that a group entered the cowshed of a person in the village around 2:30 am yesterday. At one point, the locals realized that the cows were being loaded into a pickup truck. When they chased them, they first jumped into the nearby forest and then into the pond and fled. At one point, they were caught and beaten. Two of them died on the spot. Later, the other injured person was taken to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. He also died while undergoing treatment there.
Meanwhile, upon receiving information about the incident, District Superintendent of Police Nishat Angela, OC of Gobindaganj Police Station Bulbul Islam and the local UP Chairman visited the scene. Gobindaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bulbul Islam confirmed the matter and told us that the bodies of the deceased have been kept at the police station. The identities of the deceased have not been identified yet. After the identities are confirmed, they will be sent to the morgue for autopsy as per the legal process.
