Somaliland President to Visit Israel
Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi could visit Israel soon, Israeli media reported. Al Jazeera News. If the visit takes place, it will be President Shiro’s first visit to Tel Aviv. Israel is the first country to recognize the self-proclaimed state of Somaliland, which broke away from Somalia.
Somaliland diplomat Ismail Shirok shared a photo of the Somaliland and Israeli flags displayed in Tel Aviv on social media. He said the president could arrive in Israel next Tuesday (June 16).
Somaliland is located on the shores of the Gulf of Aden, which is important as the southern gateway to the Red Sea. According to analysts, Israel recognized Somaliland due to this strategic location in order to increase its influence in the region and counter Iran and its allies.
Experts also say that the Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen, are currently a major concern for Israel, as they have announced a ban on Israeli-affiliated ships sailing through the Red Sea. However, there has been no official announcement from the Somaliland presidency or the foreign ministry regarding the visit.
