Sadiq Kayem bids farewell to Chhatra Shibir

Sadiq Kayem, vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and the organization’s international relations secretary, bid farewell to Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. He confirmed this information in his Facebook post today, Monday.
Sadiq Kayem wrote, ‘Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the beloved organization of my passion and love! A long golden chapter has come to an end. As per the normal procedure of the organization, I have taken formal leave from Islami Chhatra Shibir today.’
He also wrote, ‘I am grateful to Allah for everything. The most beautiful and fruitful times of my life have been spent with this caravan. This beloved caravan has taught me to think about the country and the nation, taught me to break the inertia and speak and developed leadership qualities with utmost compassion.’ Islami Chhatra Shibir has provided complete guidance for spiritual and moral development.’
Sadiq Kayem, mentioning the presence of Chhatra Shibir as one of the achievements of his life, wrote, ‘When I look back, countless beloved faces and images of the struggle come to mind. The company and proximity of dedicated, responsible and energetic people that I have found throughout this entire period is one of the greatest achievements of my life. I have learned and been inspired by you in every aspect of my life.’
Praying for the success of the last Chhatra Shibir, the Vice President of DUCSU wrote, ‘May Allah accept this struggle of Islami Chhatra Shibir and the sacred relationship of the workers of the movement. May He grant us the ability to act as a vigilant guard for the liberation struggle of the oppressed people of this region in the coming days and give us a worthy leadership to make this movement victorious. Amin.’
Meanwhile, Sadiq Kayem had earlier told the media, ‘Chhatra Shibir is held twice a year.’ ‘I have been dismissed for a period of six months in 2026.’
It is worth noting that Sadiq Kayem’s name was announced as Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation two months ago. The announcement was made at a conference of police stations and divisional officers held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) Council Hall in Kakrail, the capital, on May 1.
After this announcement, it was announced that Chhatra Shibir will not be allowed to contest for any political party. Sadiq is currently serving as the vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU).
