More than 50 workers admitted to hospital after falling ill at garment factory in Gazipur

A one-day general holiday has been declared after more than 50 workers of the Pan Asia Clothing Limited factory in the Bhogra Chowdhury Bari area of ​​Gazipur suddenly fell ill. According to the Industrial Police, several workers of the Pan Asia Clothing Limited ready-made garment factory located in the Bhogra Bypass area of ​​Bangladesh in Gazipur metropolis felt ill after joining work in the morning. After that, several more workers fell ill, and at least 50 of them were sent to the local Tairunnesa Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. Although most of the workers returned home after receiving primary treatment, several are still admitted. However, doctors said that they are all out of danger.
According to factory sources, about 2,200 workers work in the company. More than 50 workers suddenly became dizzy and ill while working on Monday (May 11) morning. Later, at least 40 of them were taken to Tairunnesa Memorial Medical College and Hospital for treatment. They are undergoing treatment there. Harun Or Rashid, a senior executive at the factory, said, “I was at the factory this morning. Suddenly, I saw about fifty workers feeling dizzy. Of them, 40 sick workers have been admitted to the hospital. After the tests, the doctors will be able to tell what caused them to fall ill.” Gazipur Civil Surgeon Mamunur Rashid said, “The workers have been admitted to the hospital due to mass psychological illness. Many of them are suffering from dizziness and vomiting.” Gazipur Industrial Area Police Superintendent Amjad Hossain said, “We went to the hospital and took information about the patients. The doctors said it was ‘mass psychological illness’. Everyone is out of danger. So far, we have received reports of 55 people being admitted to two hospitals.”
