Iran warns of ‘destructive’ response to US
Major General Ali Abdullahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has warned that any new US military action will be met with a ‘harsh and destructive’ response. He made the warning in the context of increasing tensions between the US and Iran.
In a statement published on Iranian state media, he said that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any attack. He added, “A harsh and destructive response will be given to any aggression or cruelty.” He strongly criticized the US and said that the unity between the Iranian military, government and people will be further strengthened.
Abdullahi claimed, “After one failure after another in military conflicts, the enemy is now trying to create divisions between the people and the leadership.” He added that Iran’s defense capabilities are a strong foundation for the peace and security of the country’s people. The Iranian military official also warned that the US would pay a “greater price” than in previous conflicts.
New US strikes
The warning came after the US carried out fresh air strikes against Iran on Saturday. The US said the strikes were carried out after an Iranian attack in Jordan killed two US soldiers and left one missing. The US Central Command (Centcom) said the strikes began at around 6pm local time on the orders of President Donald Trump.
Centcom said the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and taking action against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for its attacks on US troops in Jordan. Iran’s Mehr news agency reported that the US strike was carried out near the Sirik region in southern Iran. However, there were no reports of casualties or damage to infrastructure.
