IMF has not yet taken any decision on Bangladesh’s debt waiver: Finance Minister
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has not yet taken any decision on Bangladesh’s debt waiver. He gave this information after a meeting with the organization’s Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clark in Washington DC.
The Finance Minister said that some issues will require further discussion with the organization. They will be resolved within the next 2 weeks. However, he also said that the country’s interests will remain the government’s priority.
Incidentally, Bangladesh signed a loan agreement of $ 4.7 billion with the IMF in 2023. The loan amount was increased by another $ 800 million during the tenure of the interim government. As a result, the total amount of the loan program has stood at $ 5.5 billion. Of this, the IMF has given a total loan of $ 3.64 billion to Bangladesh.
