Government working on generating electricity from waste: Environment Minister

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo said that the government has taken various initiatives to protect the environment. Initiatives are being taken to generate electricity from solid waste. He said this at a discussion meeting organized at the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday (June 25) afternoon.
The Environment Minister said that protecting the environment has become a big challenge as all government activities in the country are Dhaka-centric. Highlighting the government’s various initiatives to prevent pollution, he said that a three-year action plan has been taken to stop the use of ‘single-use plastic’ in 40 upazilas of 12 coastal districts.
With the help of the World Bank, the government has set a target of reducing plastic consumption by 50 percent and production by 30 percent by 2030. He also mentioned that a plant is being implemented in the capital’s Amin Bazar to generate electricity from solid waste.
