Five members of the same family killed in early morning collision with truck in Madhya Pradesh
Five members of the same family were killed in a horrific road accident in Madhya Pradesh, India. Three women, a child and a man were among the dead. The tragic accident took place in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district on Thursday (July 9) when a passenger car hit a truck parked on the side of the road. Four people died on the spot. Another person later died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Police said the accident took place near Bharula village under Civil Lines police station in Umaria district at around 3:30 am today. A passenger car lost control and hit the back of a truck parked on the side of the road. Due to the intensity of the collision, the front part of the car was completely twisted. The passengers were trapped inside. On receiving the information, the police and rescue teams quickly reached the spot and started a rescue operation. However, the car was so damaged that it took a long time to get the passengers trapped inside. The bodies and the injured were taken out by cutting the damaged part of the car with the help of special equipment.
A police official said that four people died on the spot in the accident. A seriously injured woman was taken to the hospital but died while undergoing treatment. The death toll has risen to five. Initial police investigations have revealed that the deceased were residents of Lilhatola area of Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh. They were going to Chitrakoot with their family. On the way, they reached Siddhababa Dham near Bharula area when the accident occurred.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Umaria district Alok Kumar Sharma said that as soon as the news of the accident was received, the police reached the spot and started rescue work. The relatives of the deceased are coming to Umaria from Anuppur. An investigation is underway to find out the exact cause of the accident. Since it was late at night at the time of the accident, the traffic pressure on the road was relatively light. However, the investigation is being done to find out why the driver lost control or whether there was any other reason behind it. Why the truck was standing on the side of the road at the time of the accident and whether necessary precautionary measures were taken are also under investigation.
Local residents said that they rushed to see the accident-hit vehicle after hearing a loud noise. The front of the vehicle was almost completely mangled. Locals also helped the police in rescuing the injured.
The number of deaths in road accidents in India is increasing at an alarming rate. Especially during long journeys late at night, many people often lose their lives due to excessive speed, fatigue, drowsiness and collisions with heavy vehicles parked on the side of the road. This accident has brought that concern to the fore again.
Police said that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. After the completion of legal procedures, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives. At the same time, all aspects of the accident will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.
