Election Commission has started preparations for local government elections: Mirza Fakhrul in Parliament

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the Election Commission (EC) has already started preparations to organize the upcoming local government elections in a fair, free and impartial manner. In response to a question in the National Parliament today (June 30), Election Commission-in-charge Minister and Naogaon-6 MP Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam said this. The question-and-answer session was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal.
Mirza Fakhrul said that necessary preparations have been made to organize an acceptable and participatory local government election within the stipulated time. In response to a question from NCP MP Abul Hasnat Abdullah, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that to ensure the voting rights of expatriate Bangladeshis, the Election Commission has introduced a registration system for voting in IT-supported postal ballots for the first time. This initiative will continue in the next national elections and the Election Commission is working to bring maximum number of expatriate Bangladeshis under this system. In response to a question from Gaibandha-2 MP Abdul Karim, he said that at the moment the government has no plan to increase the salaries of union chairmen and members. He said that according to the District Council Act of 2000, the members of parliament of the district elected under Article 65 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh will be advisors to the District Council and will provide advice in carrying out the functions of the Council.
