Drug dealer hacked to death

A drug dealer named Bhabatosh Mridha Khoka (40) was hacked to death by assailants in Khulna’s Koyra Upazila. The incident took place early Monday (May 18) in Maheshwaripur village of Maheshwaripur union of the upazila. The deceased Bhabatosh Mridha is the son of the deceased Jasho Mridha of ward number 3 of the union. He ran a drug shop in the local Gilabari market.
Police and locals said that a group of miscreants broke into Bhabatosh Mridha’s house early this morning. When Bhabatosh woke up and tried to stop them, the miscreants hacked him with sharp weapons and seriously injured him. Later, locals rescued him in a seriously injured condition and took him to Koyra Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared him dead.
Resident Medical Officer of Koyra Upazila Health Complex Dr. Sujit Kumar Vaidya said that Bhabatosh Mridha was brought to the hospital in a seriously injured condition around 3:30 am. He died before reaching the hospital. Koyra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shah Alam said that after receiving the information, the police visited the scene. A drive is underway to uncover the reason for the murder and arrest those involved. However, no items were stolen from the deceased’s house. The body has been sent to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
