Death sentence in child rape and murder case in Comilla
A court has sentenced to death a convict in a child rape and murder case in Comilla. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of one lakh taka. Yesterday, Wednesday (July 15), Comilla District and Sessions Judge and Child Violence Prevention Tribunal Judge Abdul Hannan announced the verdict. The convicted accused is Billal Hossain, son of Harunur Rashid of Purnamati village in Burichang upazila of Comilla.
PP Advocate Badiul Alam Sujan of the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal said that in 2024, in case number 5 of Burichang police station and case number 271/26 of the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal, the learned judge sentenced the accused Md. Billal Hossain to death as the charges against him were proven. At the same time, a fine of one lakh taka was ordered. The convicted accused was present in the custody of the court during the announcement of the verdict. After the verdict was announced, he was sent to Comilla Central Jail based on the death sentence issued by the court.
According to the case sources, on September 30, 2024, nine-year-old Yasin, a tea shop owner of Akkas Mia of Purnamati village in Burichang upazila, went missing. When his family members could not find him, Akkas Mia filed a missing person’s diary with Burichang police station the next day. Four days later, the police recovered the body of the child Yasin from the side of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The next day, on October 6, a murder case was filed at Burichang police station, accusing Billal Hossain and unknown persons. The complaint said that before going missing, Yasin was seen having breakfast with Billal Hossain at a shop. Yasin himself told his mother Khodeja Begum that he would go to Nimsar market with Billal Hossain. The complaint said that he has not been found since then.
