Clashes in Manikganj over Atika’s murder, 2 killed in mob lynching

Two brothers were killed in a mob lynching in Sadar Upazila of Manikganj over the murder of a seven-year-old girl. The victims in the mob lynching were suspected teenager Naeem’s father Pannu and his uncle Faruk. The incident took place on Thursday (April 16) night in Banparil village of Sadar Upazila. Police and locals said that Atika Akhter, a first-grade student of the nearby Dudal Mia School, went missing while playing in the afternoon.
Later, during the interrogation of suspect Naeem, the child’s body was recovered from a corn field. After the body was recovered, Naeem fled in the crowd, but the agitated mob attacked his house. The agitated mob chased Naeem’s family members and lynched them, killing his father and uncle on the spot. Their bodies were later recovered from a pond.
Manikganj Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Abdullah Al Mamun said that police have recovered the bodies and sent them to the Manikganj Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The situation in the area is tense and additional police have been deployed in this regard.
