BNP leader hacked to death in Araihazar, Narayanganj

Due to an internal dispute over the sale of a piece of land, miscreants hacked to death a union BNP leader named Osman Gani (45) in Araihazar, Narayanganj. In protest of the murder and demanding the hanging of those involved, local BNP leaders and workers blocked the Araihazar-Brahmanandi road and staged a massive protest. The deceased Osman Gani was the general secretary of Brahmanandi Union BNP in that upazila.
According to police and eyewitness sources, Osman had been in a long-standing dispute with another local group of the party over the sale of a piece of land. On Wednesday night (May 20), Osman Gani went to inspect the scene after receiving news that an excavator used to cut soil had broken down in the Panchgaon area of ​​the upazila. On his way home after work, a group of armed miscreants ambushed him. The attackers hacked him to death with sharp weapons and left him in a seriously injured condition. Later, locals rescued him in a life-threatening condition and took him to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
This Thursday (May 21) morning, angry party leaders and workers blocked the Araihazar-Brahmanandi road with sticks. At that time, all types of traffic on the road were stopped due to burning tires and a severe traffic jam was created. Later, the situation came under control after the police went and gave specific assurances that the involved would be brought to justice quickly. After the murder, the Araihazar police station conducted raids in various areas at night. Three people, including the member secretary of the Duptara Union Volunteer Party, have been detained for questioning on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Araihazar police station confirmed the incident and said that initially it was believed that the murder took place due to a dispute between the accused and a local land-cutting business. The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Additional police have been deployed in the area and the situation is now calm. The process of registering a case in this incident is underway and the operation to arrest the main accused is ongoing.
