Bangladeshi shot dead in US
A man named Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque was shot in the back of the head in the Kingsington area of Philadelphia, USA, on Tuesday night (July 7). The deceased was an employee of the popular US food delivery company ‘DoorDash’. He used to deliver food to the homes of online customers.
NBC10 Philadelphia did not mention the nationality of the deceased Mahfuzul Haque or the country from which he was living in the United States as an immigrant. However, various social media accounts of Bangladeshis living in the United States have reported that he is of Bangladeshi descent.
Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police in the state of Pennsylvania said that police went to the scene after receiving a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of South Ethan Street at around 9:30 pm local time. There, they found a 43-year-old man named Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque lying on the ground. He had a gunshot wound to the back of his head.
When police found Mahfuzul lying with a gunshot wound, a car was parked nearby with its engine running. A large DoorDash delivery bag was also found there, Officer Small said. Officer Scott Small said Mahfuzul was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at about 10 p.m.
The officer added, “Two spent rifle bullet casings were found within inches of where Mahfuzul was lying, indicating he had been shot at close range.” Investigators believe this was a premeditated murder. The shooting was planned and targeted. Three masked men dressed in black have been identified as the suspects in the incident. However, their photos were not immediately released.
Investigators said the car found at the scene with its engine running belonged to the deceased. Officer Small said police checked the address where the deceased was going to deliver food and no one living there had ordered anything from DoorDash. A bag of food was found about a block away from the scene, but investigators have not yet confirmed whether the bag is connected to the shooting.
In a statement about the incident, a DoorDash spokesperson said the company is cooperating with police in the investigation following the deadly shooting. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement to bring those responsible for this senseless incident to justice,” the spokesperson added. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department or report it anonymously online.
