40 injured in clash over land

Around 40 people, including women, were injured in a clash between two parties over a land dispute in Madan, Netrokona. The incident took place on Sunday (July 26) afternoon in Alamshri village of Nayekpur union of the upazila. Locals said the clash took place between the families of local Union Parishad (UP) member Faruk Mia and BNP leader Billal Mia.
Of the injured in the clash, 11 were taken to the Upazila Health Complex in critical condition and the doctor on duty referred them all to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The injured admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital are Emdadul (37), Saiful Islam (30), Sajib Mia (25), Prant (30), Abul Kashem (38), Munayem (30), Ramin (13), Sifat (15), Roshnara Akhter (35), Rakiba Akhter (40) and Nurjahan (80).
According to local sources, Sattar Mia (70) of the same area had mortgaged 170 percent of his agricultural land from BNP leader Billal Mia (45) for Tk 100. Sattar Mia was stopped when he tried to cut a road to plant paddy on the land.
Later, Mozammel (50), Faruk Member (45) and Selim Uddin (60) of the same area beat up Sattar Mia’s son Nurul Amin (28). This incident led to a clash between the two parties. At least 40 people, including women from both sides, were injured in the clash.
Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Salah Uddin Karim said, “Police have been sent to the spot to bring the situation under control. The situation is currently calm. No written complaint has been filed in this regard so far. Necessary legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.”
