3 injured in bomb-like explosion in Bakerganj, Barisal

Three people, including a woman and a child, were injured in an explosion in Bakerganj Upazila, Barisal. The incident took place at around 6 am today (August 3) in Dudhlmau village of Bhorpasha Union of the upazila.
The injured are Shah Alam Howlader’s wife Hanufa Begum, daughter Iti and grandson Fahim. The injured were first taken to Bakerganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, they were sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to police sources, a sudden explosion occurred with a loud noise near a sand-filled bag kept next to Shah Alam Howlader’s house. Three people nearby were burnt in the explosion. Panic spread in the area after the explosion. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot, collected evidence and started an investigation.
Shah Alam Howlader’s son Jamal said that his mother, sister and nephew were burnt when a bomb inside the sand bag exploded. To save their lives, they jumped into the Tulatla River in front of their house. Later, locals rescued them and took them to the hospital. However, he claimed that his family has no idea how the bomb got there. Adil Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakerganj Police Station, said that the incident is being investigated seriously. What kind of explosives were used and who was involved in it can be confirmed after the investigation.
