A policeman named Md. Saidul Islam (19) has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the Demra police station in the capital after posting on Facebook in protest against the insult and humiliation of his wife and mother-in-law.
In this incident, the deceased’s father Md. Sadek (57) filed a case against Saidul’s wife and five members of her in-laws at the Demra police station on Monday night (July 20). According to the deceased’s family sources, none of the accused have been arrested yet. Saidul Islam’s village is in Uttar Chandpur village of Feni Sadar upazila. He was working as a constable in the ‘C’ company of the Eastern Police Lines.
The plaintiff in the case, Md. Sadek, said that he used to make a living by selling bakery products in a van. He earned a lot of money and sent his son to school with the borrowed money. After joining the police service, the parents hoped that the son’s income would pay off the debt and prosperity would return to the family.
He also said that Rubaiya got married to Saidul on May 4 this year. After the marriage, Rubaiya went to his madrasa from Saidul’s house on May 22 to take the exam. That day, Rubaiya left the madrasa with her father. Later, on May 25, Rubaiya came to her in-laws’ house from her house and returned to her father’s house after an argument.
Later, when he called his wife and mother-in-law, they abused Saidul in foul language on the mobile phone. At that time, they insulted and humiliated him in various ways, including calling him poor and insignificant. Unable to bear the insult, his father posted on Facebook on the night of July 16 and complained that Saidul had committed suicide.
