Flooding in 5 districts

The Bangladesh Water Development Board’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center has said that due to heavy rains across the country, river water levels may rise in 5 districts in the next 24 to 48 hours, creating new flood situations. At the same time, the water level in some districts may exceed the danger level and inundate low-lying areas. This information was given in a forecast given today, Sunday (July 19).
The forecast says that although the water level of Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers in North Rangpur division has been stable in the last 24 hours, the water level of these rivers may increase in the next 3 days. In this situation, the water level of these rivers may rise above the danger level in some places in the next 24 to 48 hours and sudden or short-term flooding may occur in some places in the low-lying areas of these rivers in Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts.
It has also been said that the water level of Surma river has increased in the northeastern region in the last 24 hours and the water level of Kushiyara river is stable. The water level of these rivers may rise in the next 3 days as well. As a result, the water level of these rivers may rise above the danger level in some places in the next 48 hours and short-term flood conditions may occur in some low-lying areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts or the flood situation may remain stable.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Brahmaputra river has remained stable in the last 24 hours, but the water level of the Jamuna river has increased. The water level of these rivers may rise further in the next 5 days. In this situation, the water level of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river may flow within the warning level in some places of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogra, Sirajganj and Tangail from the second to the fifth day (July 20-24) and the low-lying areas adjacent to the river may be flooded in some places.
On the other hand, the water level of the Sarigowain, Jadukata and Kangsa rivers in the northeast Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions has remained stable in the last 24 hours, but the water level of the Someshwari and Bhugai rivers has increased. The water level of these rivers may rise further in the next 3 days. In this situation, the water level of the Someshwari River in Netrakona may rise above the danger level in some places in the next 24 to 72 hours and short-term flood conditions may occur in some low-lying areas adjacent to the river. The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center also informed that the water level of the Upper Karatoya, Upper Atrai, Tangon, Punarbhava, Mahananda and Jamuneshwari rivers in North Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions has increased in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, the water level of the Ghaghat, Atrai, Karatoya and Choto Jamuna rivers has decreased. The water level of these rivers may increase further in the next 3 days.
