Osman Hadi’s heroic story to be included in textbooks

It has been decided to include the heroic story of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi in textbooks. The 2028 book will highlight his life, work, martyrdom and subsequent events. This decision was taken at a meeting of the National Curriculum and Textbook Revision Committee. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Education on Wednesday (June 10). Abdul Khaleq, Secretary of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, and other members were present at the meeting.
Two members of the committee said that several important changes have been planned in the textbooks for the next academic year. As part of this, new lessons will be created in the Bengali literature books of classes 9 and 10 in the light of two articles titled ‘Birth of the Nation’ and ‘Memories of the War of Independence’ written by martyred President Ziaur Rahman.
They said that there was also a discussion on including Sharif Osman bin Hadi, a frontline fighter of the July Uprising, in the textbook. As per the decision of the meeting, his heroic story will be presented to the students in the new curriculum to be launched from the 2028 academic year.
According to the meeting sources, the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) is planning to include Sharif Osman bin Hadi in the same manner as Titumir, Pritilata Waddedar, Nur Hossain, Abu Sayeed and Mir Mughal are presented in the chapter ‘We Will Not Forget You’ of the fifth grade Bengali book.
After the July Uprising, the interim government took the initiative to review the national curriculum. Later, various amendments were made to the textbook in light of the 2012 curriculum. Meanwhile, after the formation of the BNP government, a policy decision was taken to introduce a new curriculum from 2028.
