Thai sailor dies in stabbing, 1 arrested

Another Thai sailor named Turakarn Burusi has been arrested in connection with the death of a Thai sailor in a stabbing incident on the Thai-flagged ship ‘MV KPP-01’ at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong port. He was arrested from the ship on Tuesday (May 19) night.
Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zubair Chowdhury told Banglanews that when the accused Turakarn Burusi was produced before the Chittagong Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (May 20), an order was issued to send him to jail. The deceased Thai sailor is named Rafifong Klahan (30). He was working as an oiler on the ship. According to police and relevant sources, an argument broke out between two Thai sailors over responsibility on a ship brought to Bhatiari in Sitakunda for breaking up.
At one point, the dispute turned into a clash. Rafifong Klahan was seriously injured by a knife used for cooking at that time. Later, the ship’s local agent rescued him and admitted him to a private hospital in Chittagong. He died there while undergoing treatment. OC Zubair Chowdhury said that another Thai sailor, Turakarn Burusi, was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with the death of the Thai sailor. The court has ordered the accused to be sent to prison. The body has been kept in a freezer after the autopsy.
