ADP of Tk 3 lakh crore approved
The National Economic Council (NEC) meeting has approved an Annual Development Program (ADP) of about Tk 3 lakh crore for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27. Of this, government funding will be Tk 1 lakh 90 thousand crore and project loans and grants will be Tk 1 lakh 10 crore.
The approval was given in a meeting held today (May 18) at the Planning Commission Auditorium in Agargaon in the capital under the chairmanship of National Economic Council (NEC) Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. After the meeting, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury informed about the approval of the ADP. He said, “Today’s meeting was an important meeting. After a long time, the elected government is going to present the budget. This is a reflection of the last election manifesto, it is a journey from a fragile economy to prosperity. It is a 5-year framework.”
He also said that the ADP proposed for the upcoming fiscal year reflects a new vision in Bangladesh’s development plan. The ADP presented to the National Economic Council (NEC) not only outlines infrastructure development, but also a comprehensive outline for state reforms, building a non-discriminatory society, sustainable economy and establishing regional balance. The ADP has been organized into five main pillars in light of the ‘Five-Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development’. The total size of the proposed ADP has been estimated at around Tk 3 lakh crore. Of this, the Bangladesh government’s financing is Tk 1 lakh 90 thousand crore and project loans and grants are Tk 1 lakh 10 thousand crore. This is a large development program compared to the current fiscal year, which indicates an increase in the government’s investment and implementation capacity. He further said, “We have determined the necessary qualifications for the appointment of Project Directors (PDs). We are reviewing all the projects and are continuing to review them further.” However, new projects must be completed within the stipulated time. There is no scope for extending the time, he added.
