Prime Minister expresses sorrow over waterlogging in Chittagong and the suffering of city dwellers
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed sorrow over the suffering of city dwellers due to waterlogging in Chittagong during the rainy season. He expressed this sorrow in response to a question from Sayeed Al Noman, MP for Chittagong-10 constituency, on the 24th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament today, Wednesday (April 29).
At that time, the Head of Government said, a large part of Chittagong city is now submerged in water, people are suffering. I have already spoken to the Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation. He is trying to solve the problem. But now it has turned into a huge waterlogging, naturally it will take some time to solve it. Addressing the people of Chittagong, Tarique Rahman said, From my position, I sincerely express sorrow for the suffering of all the citizens of Chittagong city. We are trying to bring people out of this problem as soon as possible.
Blaming the lack of public awareness for the waterlogging, the BNP Chairman called on the city dwellers to be aware of this problem. He said, “Due to dumping of plastic bottles, polythene and other waste in various sewers and canals, the flow of water is being stopped. Just a few days after the government’s cleanliness drive, they are being blocked again by dumping garbage. My humble request to all the members of parliament – let us increase public awareness. We have to teach the people how to dispose of plastic or polythene. This is our moral responsibility.”
