3 killed in truck-microbus collision in Kurigram

Three people were killed and 13 injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram. The accident occurred at around 11 pm on Tuesday (April 28) in the Banshertal area of ​​Beparirhat in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Sadia (8), daughter of Monir Hossain of Uttar Tilai village in Tilai union of neighboring Bhurungamari upazila, Nurannabi (28), son of Zahidul Islam of the same area, and Limon Mia (28), son of Saifur Rahman of Shilkhuri union, a microbus driver. Thirteen more people were injured in the incident.
The 13 people injured in the accident were rescued with the help of locals and first taken to Nageshwari Health Center. Later, the seriously injured were shifted to Kurigram General Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The condition of some of the injured is said to be critical.
Eyewitnesses said that a microbus heading from Kurigram to Bhurungamari collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Two people died on the spot. Another person died later on the way to the hospital. It is learnt that the passengers of the microbus were returning home after receiving treatment at a private clinic in Rangpur.
Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade and police quickly reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Initially, excessive speed and carelessness are believed to be the reasons for the accident. Abdullah Hill Zaman, officer-in-charge of Nageshwari Police Station, confirmed the incident and said that the police are investigating the cause of the accident. He also said that legal action will be taken if any complaint is received in this regard.
