US to send thousands more troops to Middle East
The US is planning to send thousands more additional troops to the Middle East to force Iran into a permanent peace deal. A Washington Post report claims that the US administration has decided to make this huge military gathering to increase pressure on Iran to end the ongoing war.
Citing US officials, the newspaper said that several warships, including the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, and about 6,000 troops may be deployed to the region. In addition, about 4,200 more troops are scheduled to join them later this month.
According to defense analysts, the timing of this troop deployment is very significant. A two-week ceasefire in Iran is set to end on April 22, and during that time, the US military is increasing its strength there. The Pentagon is not limited to just deploying troops, but is also seriously considering the issue of a direct military strike or ground operation against Iran.
The potential operation includes key military missions such as removing Iranian nuclear material, deploying Marines to coastal areas to protect the Strait of Hormuz, and taking control of Kharg Island, known as Iran’s main oil export hub. However, the US Defense Headquarters or the Pentagon has not yet officially commented on the plan. It is believed that the move could take a new and dangerous turn in the ongoing instability in the Middle East.
