3 killed in Narayanganj ferry accident

Three people died when a ferry carrying multiple vehicles fell into the Dhaleshwari River in Fatulla, Narayanganj. Two bodies were recovered from the river at around 2 am today (December 21). Another person died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The deceased were van drivers Swadhin, expatriate Masud and Rafiqul Islam.
Police said that a ferry carrying vehicles from the eastern end of Fatulla on the Dhaleshwari River was heading to Baktavali Ghat on the western side at around 9 pm yesterday. At one point, when the ferry moved into the middle of the river, the driver of a mini truck started the truck. At that time, two auto-rickshaws, a van and a motorcycle were hit by the truck and fell into the river with their passengers. At that time, several passengers were able to get to the bank, but three passengers went missing.
Police also said that two bodies were later recovered from the scene. In addition, one person died while undergoing treatment. The bodies were handed over without an autopsy following a request from the relatives of the deceased.
