Windies win against New Zealand after 17 years

In 2008, a T20I match between West Indies and New Zealand ended in a draw, so it went to the Super Over. The Caribbeans won there. After that, the 17-year drought continued. The Windies could not win on the Kiwis’ soil. Today, the Windies have won again.
The visiting Windies, who decided to bat first after losing the toss at Eden Park in Auckland, scored 164 runs. Later, the Caribbeans restricted the hosts to 157 runs and won the series by 7 runs. The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series.
No team has won by such a low score in T20 cricket before. In 2012, South Africa won by 165 runs. Australia won by 118 runs at this ground, but the overs were reduced due to rain that day. Out of the 11 T20Is played on New Zealand soil, the West Indies have tasted victory only once. That victory in 2008.
Today, New Zealand needed 56 runs from the last 18 balls. Kiwi captain Mitchell Santner almost achieved it with his extraordinary batting. However, despite being unbeaten on 55 off 28 balls, he could not equal this score. Although the team’s top order was stable, he could not prolong the innings. Tim Robinson scored the second highest 27 runs off 21 balls.
For the Windies, spinner Roston Chase took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Earlier, he scored 28 runs with the bat from 27 balls. In the end, he was the man of the match. The most successful captain with the bat was Shai Hope with 53 runs off 39 balls. Rovman Powell scored 33 runs off 23 balls.
