Widow beaten to death in Char Fashion, 3 people including Awami League leader arrested
A widow was allegedly beaten to death in Bhola’s Char Fashion over property grabbing, breaking her arm and chest bone. The woman’s left arm and a chest bone were allegedly broken in the attack. She has been admitted to the Char Fashion Upazila Health Complex in her injured condition.
Three days after the incident, on Saturday (July 18) night, the victim Rahima Begum’s son Al Amin filed a case against five people at the Char Fashion Police Station. Following the case, the police have arrested three people including the main accused Kalam Majhi. The incident took place in Ward No. 1 of Osmanganj Union of the upazila. Accused Kalam Majhi is said to be the general secretary of the ward Awami League.
According to local sources, Rahima Begum had been living in the property left by her husband with her children since her husband died a few years ago. It has been alleged that Kalam Majhi had been pressuring her for a long time in various ways to grab the property.
The victim’s family claims that last Wednesday morning, Kalam Majhi, along with his sons Zakir and Jihad, along with some associates, attacked Rahima Begum on her way to sell dub. At that time, she was severely beaten up, resulting in her left hand and a broken chest bone. Later, locals rescued her and admitted her to Char Fashion Upazila Health Complex.
Rahima Begum’s son Al Amin, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, told us on Sunday (July 19), “Kalam Majhi has been harassing us in various ways for a long time to grab the property left by my father. Last Wednesday, they beat up my mother while selling dub and seriously injured her. My mother is still undergoing treatment in the hospital. There was some delay in filing a case at the police station as she was busy. I want a fair trial in this incident.”
Local UP member Nizam Uddin said that after receiving the news, the village police were sent to the spot. Later, after investigating, we came to know that the incident of beating Rahima Begum is true. Char Fashion Police Station OC Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan said, “We are aware of the incident. The victim is undergoing treatment in the hospital. After filing a case, three people, including the main accused Kalam Majhi, have been arrested. The investigation into the incident is underway. Legal action will be taken once the investigation is completed.”
