Upazila Executive Officer Umme Hafsa Nadia rescues newborn baby from garbage pile, says, ‘I am also a mother’

A newborn baby has been rescued alive from a garbage pile at Gazaria Upazila Health Complex in Munshiganj. The baby was rescued at around 1 am on Monday (June 29). It is learnt that a nanny at the hospital heard the baby’s crying and informed the nurses on duty. Later, the nurses went and rescued the baby alive from the garbage pile.
In this regard, Upazila Health Complex Resident Physician Dr. Nusrat Farzana Khan said that the baby was given necessary first aid immediately after the rescue. He has also been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for close observation. Meanwhile, Upazila Executive Officer Umme Hafsa Nadia rushed to the hospital at night after receiving the news. In an emotional voice, she said, ‘I am also a mother. I am very shocked to hear the news.’
He said that the child’s maximum protection is being ensured and the entire matter is under investigation. Meanwhile, the incident of abandoning the baby in Futfut has created quite a stir in the area. Expressing anger, locals said that the culprits should be identified quickly and given exemplary punishment. It is worth noting that the identity of the child’s guardian is not known yet.
