UK to hold Ukraine meeting today

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has hosted a key meeting in Downing Street on Sunday (June 7) in support of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will attend, The Guardian reported. The meeting comes a week after tensions escalated over the Russia-Ukraine war. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected Zelensky’s offer of a face-to-face meeting.
The UK, France and Germany are among Ukraine’s closest allies. In particular, the UK and France are leading the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ initiative, which was formed as part of the peace process to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukraine carried out a major attack on St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, on Saturday. There were no immediate reports of casualties. However, the attack showed that Ukraine is now capable of striking much deeper into Russia.
However, one person was killed and three others were injured in a Russian attack in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region. Regional head Oleksandr Hanzha said Russian forces carried out about 30 strikes in three districts using drones and shelling. Earlier this week, one person was killed and 15 people, including three children, were injured in a Russian attack in Ukraine. At the same time, Ukraine has repelled hundreds of long-range Russian drone strikes.
