Two autorickshaw drivers shot in Lohagara
Two battery-powered autorickshaw drivers were shot in two separate places in Lohagara, Chittagong. The incident took place on Monday (May 18) evening in the Kumirghona and Ghonar Mor areas of Wards 8 and 9 of Barahatia Union of the upazila. The two people shot are Qayyum Sharif (19), son of Shah Alam of Kumirghona area of Barahatia Union, and Md. Akib (20), son of Hamid Hossain of Kumirghona area of Barahatia Union. Both are battery-powered autorickshaw drivers.
Akib’s family claims that Akib used to carry food items in autorickshaws for a hill terrorist group for a long time. Recently, he refused to transport their goods. As a result, he was shot. It is learned that Akib was shot in the hand and stomach. On the other hand, Qayyum Sharif said that he took a taxi from Chunati Bazar to Ghonar More area. On the way back after dropping the passengers, the miscreants opened fire on him. He was shot in different places in his back. However, he could not say anything about who carried out the attack. Locals alleged that although terrorist activities and extortion have been going on in the hilly areas for a long time, many do not want to open their mouths out of fear. Recently, these two shooting incidents have created new panic among the common people. Dr. Abdullah Al Fahim, a doctor at the emergency department of Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, said that the two youths who were shot were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition after receiving primary treatment. Lohagara Police Station OC Mohammad Abdullah said that investigations are underway into the two incidents. The police are trying to identify those involved. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.
