Trump approves historic nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia

US President Donald Trump has approved a historic deal with Saudi Arabia. The deal is expected to give Riyadh the ability to enrich uranium for its civilian nuclear program, two sources familiar with the matter said on Wednesday (July 22). According to the source, although no formal announcement has been made yet, a public announcement about the deal is expected on Wednesday.
According to a report first published in ‘The Wall Street Journal’, the deal will be effective for 30 years and will allow US companies to directly participate in the development of Saudi Arabia’s nuclear program. According to a provision of the deal, US companies will be able to build a uranium enrichment plant in Saudi Arabia after a joint study by the US and Saudi Arabia.
According to analysts, the deal has the potential to generate billions of dollars in revenue for the US nuclear industry. However, the deal is expected to be submitted to the US Congress for review before final approval.
Saudi Arabia is a member state of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which promotes peaceful nuclear programs around the world. Both current President Trump and former President Joe Biden have tried to reach an agreement with Riyadh in the past to exchange US nuclear technology.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright visited Riyadh last year, just before Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia. During that time, he discussed in detail with his Saudi counterpart the development of a commercial nuclear power industry in the country.
