Troops to remain in Lebanon indefinitely: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army would remain in southern Lebanon “as long as necessary” to ensure the security of residents in the country’s north. At the same time, he reiterated his commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, The Dawn reported.
“For the security of the beloved residents of the north and all citizens of Israel, we will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon as long as necessary,” he said on Sunday (June 21). Nothing will distract us from this commitment.”
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said, “There are no restrictions on the activities of the Israeli army in Lebanon to counter threats.” He claimed that the troops are still deployed in the area designated as the security zone and are free to take necessary measures.
Earlier, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect last Friday, but at least 20 people were killed in an attack by the occupying forces in Lebanon on Saturday.

Hezbollah committed to ceasefire conditions
A Hezbollah official told Reuters in an interview that if Israel respects the ceasefire, their side will also respect it. However, he also commented that Israeli forces have no right to move freely in southern Lebanon.
He said that Hezbollah fighters have not attacked Israeli troops since 6:30 pm local time on Saturday. Meanwhile, Israeli army chief Yal Zamir told troops in southern Lebanon that Hezbollah had suffered heavy losses in clashes with Israeli forces and was currently in a “very difficult situation”.
“Hezbollah has suffered a serious and major blow. We are ready to prevent them from regrouping and to launch another operation if necessary,” he said.
