This year’s budget to provide relief to all the people of the country amid limited resources: Finance Minister

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the government is preparing this year’s budget to provide relief to all the people of the country amid limited resources. He told reporters in Parliament earlier today, Thursday (June 11).
The Finance Minister said that the nation’s expectations are very high from the elected government’s budget. It says that economic benefits should reach everyone. In addition, the government is trying to take the economy from a fragile state to the path of prosperity. This afternoon, the Finance Minister will present a budget of Tk 9.38 trillion for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the National Parliament. This is the first budget of the new government.
The amount of expenditure is increasing due to addressing global risks, increased spending on subsidies and social security programs, pressure on interest payments, and implementation of the recommendations for the new salary structure for government employees. Although priority is given to economic recovery, investment and employment growth, there is a record deficit of Tk 2.43 trillion. The target is being set to bring inflation down to 7.5 percent in the next fiscal year. GDP growth is estimated to be 6.5 percent.
