Students stand in front of Parliament demanding the resignation of the Education Minister
Despite the continuous rain and waterlogging, students from various colleges have taken a stand in front of the South Plaza of the Parliament House demanding the resignation of the Education Minister in protest of the HSC exam on Monday. Today, Tuesday (July 14), at around 5:45 pm, they broke the police barricade and went in front of the Parliament House. The students have demanded that they will continue the movement until their demands are met.
Earlier, at 5 pm, an announcement was made by the protesting students in the science lab. City College examinee Md. Miraj Hossain said that the Education Minister must resign by 6 pm today and apologize to the nation for his incoherent comments.
Considering the feelings of those who took the exam in an uncomfortable environment yesterday (July 13) and those who could not, the exam should be retaken. At the same time, tomorrow’s exam should be canceled and a new exam routine should be published. The criteria of the question paper must also be student-friendly.
The students first blocked the road around 11:30 am and observed a sit-in strike for about 45 minutes. Later, they lifted the blockade and marched to Dhaka College, New Market and took a position in front of the residence of the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University.
From there, the students went to the Dhaka Education Board under the supervision of the police and stayed for some time. Later, they returned to the Science Lab intersection and started the second phase of the road blockade. During this time, severe traffic jams were created in Science Lab, New Market, Elephant Road and other areas. However, the protesting students allowed emergency ambulances to move freely for humanitarian reasons.
