Seminar on Philosophy of Law held at UITS, enlightening speech by former Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed
Dhaka, May 21: A special seminar titled “Understanding the Philosophical and Jurisprudential Foundations of Law” was held at the initiative of the Law Department of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS). The program was organized at 3 pm today, Thursday (May 21, 2026) at the Moot Court Room of the permanent campus of the university.
At the beginning of the program, the Holy Quran was recited and Naat Rasul (PBUH) was performed. Later, a documentary on the brief biography of the Law Department of UITS and the chief guest of the program was shown. The welcome speech was delivered by UITS Advisor and Supreme Court Appellate Division Lawyer Advocate Md. Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan.
Former Chief Justice of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed was present as the chief guest and keynote speaker at the program. In his speech, he discussed in detail the philosophical foundations of law, the concept of justice, judicial reasoning analysis and various theoretical aspects of modern jurisprudence. He said that it is important to deeply understand the close relationship between the theoretical and practical aspects of law and justice. His speech created great interest among law students, researchers and jurists.

Alhaj Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, a prominent industrialist and Ekushey Padak recipient and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UITS and PHP Family, spoke as the guest of honor. He called on the students to become people with human values through morality, honesty and hard work. He said that the will and hard work of a good deed lead people to the path of epoch-making success.
Renowned jurist, Senate member of Chittagong University and former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Faruk was present as the special guest. He presented an analytical reflection on the main article. In the presidential speech, UITS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hasan Bhuiyan said that such academic events play an important role in critical legal research and intellectual practice. He said that such initiatives will serve as a milestone in building a knowledge-based society and achieving excellence in legal education.
The final phase of the program was the ‘Crest Presentation’ and prize distribution. At this time, the winning students of the successfully completed ‘1st Intra-UITS Law Colloquium’ were given honors and prizes. The entire program was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Md. Sohel Rana, Head of the Law Department and Assistant Professor of UITS. Teachers, researchers and a large number of law students from various faculties of the university were present at the program.
