Schoolgirl’s body recovered from cupboard in Satkhira, woman accused of gang rape killed
Police have recovered the body of third-grade student Farzana Khatun from inside a cupboard in Kaliganj, Satkhira. The body was recovered from a house in Kashiwati village of Nalta Union on Monday (July 20) evening. After the incident, an agitated mob attacked the police and beat to death a housewife named Sumaiya Khatun (25), who was arrested on suspicion of murder, on the spot. Several police personnel were injured in the incident.
The deceased schoolgirl Farzana is the daughter of Imamul Islam of Kashiwati village and Kajla is a student of Kashiwati Government Primary School. On the other hand, Sumaiya, who was killed in the gang rape, is the wife of Amirul Islam of the same village. It is learned that she used to sell jhalmuri next to the school.
According to local sources, Farzana left home at around 8 am yesterday to go to school and did not return. It was later learned that she did not go to school either. The family informed the police, who conducted a search operation at Sumaiya’s house and recovered the child’s body from inside the cupboard. Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said the situation in the area is currently under control of the police. He said two bodies have been recovered in this incident and are being sent to the morgue for autopsy.
