Opposition leader proposes to change fiscal year from January to December
The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has proposed to change the fiscal year from July to June and from January to December. He said that the budget should be reviewed in the parliament every 4 months. He said this while participating in the budget discussion in the 13th session of the National Assembly today, Monday (June 29).
The opposition leader said that since the fiscal year is from July to June, work is done only on the basis of bills. It should be kept according to the calendar year, that is, between January and December. He also commented that it is necessary to present the supplementary budget at least 3 months before the end of the fiscal year.
He said that it was difficult for the Finance Minister to present the budget in such a short time. However, the Minister and his team have tried their best. There were many demands for amendments in the budget proposal. If some of them were accepted, a new chapter would have been added to the democratic practice of the country.
He also said that there are no guidelines for bringing back laundered money. If one-ninth of the laundered money is returned, there will be no deficit in the budget. He also called for bringing confidence to the businessmen regarding revenue. If the government stands by them in times of danger, they will pay more taxes for the needs of the country. Very few businessmen are dishonest, many businessmen are forced to be dishonest. The opposition leader also said that if our universities are not research-based, then we will forever be an import-dependent nation. We will continue to import all the capital equipment, supplies and products we need from abroad and will only keep looking for a country from which we can import better. In addition, the opposition leader recommended increasing the allowances of all freedom fighters, not just those with titles.
